controlling the disposal of refuse in mid or high rise residential and commercial
buildings. Application

existing buildings. For use in Flats, apartment buildings, factories, offices,
shopping centres, hotels and hospitals.

Hardall refuse chutes conform to British Standards BS1703 and BS5906 and are manufactured
to the highest quality, normally from 1.5mm stainless steel (other material and
thicknesses are available). Hardall SPC hopper doors, have a certified
1.5 hour fire rating and smoke seal in accordance with BS476 and BS5588.
Advantages of Steel Compared to Concrete
Chute sections are relatively light weight and can be
man handled into position. Typically a 10 storey chute can be installed in 3 to 4
days as soon as the building structure is complete and the roof is in place.
Sizes
Supplied in circular section with internal diameters ranging from 450 to
800mm. Where possible Hardall always recommend the optimum chute size of 600mm
diameter. The hopper doors supplied with this chute size suit most current user
requirements in terms of capacity. In addition however Hardall offer a complete
bespoke design service to provide chutes 'fit for purpose' in many shapes and sizes.
Design
Each chute is specifically designed using the latest CAD technology to meet customer
requirements and to suit the building layout. Generally a typical chute will
comprise of two or three sections per floor connected by angle rings or a telescopic
joint. An entry section holds the SPC hopper door and the chute is supported at each floor
level using a special clamp band support frame.
Accessories
The inclusion of automatic or manual chute cleaning systems, disinfectant &
sanitising units, electrical interlocks, foul air exhaust fans, sound deadening and fire
control equipment within the overall design can aid in meeting the needs of most client
specifications.
Health & Safety
Hardall chutes are designed to be safe to operate. Hopper doors are finished with
rounded edges and counter-weighted for easy opening. Cut-off plates at the base of
the chute are installed, where possible at a safe working height and orientated to
minimise any head hazard. An automatic 1 or 2hr fire door located underside of the
first floor of the chute is where possible always installed above head height but easily
accessible for re-arming. Any electrical equipment complies with the latest IEE
standards and is installed and tested by qualified engineers.
Hardall provide comprehensive and job specific method statement & risk
assessment documentation at the start of each project and operator manuals at time of
hand-over to comply with latest CDM regulations.
Installation & Construction Division
Hardall provide a complete installation service including
provision for re-placement of dilapidated concrete or clay pipe chutes and associated
demolition and new building works.
Chute Maintenance &
Cleaning
Generally a basic chute should be maintenance free, however where chute cleaning
systems and hopper door interlocks are included, then Hardall will always recommend a
preventative maintenance contract. In addition a chute cleaning service, utilising
high pressure jet washing equipment is available.
